About Jennifer Astone

Jennifer has more than ten years experience in international philanthropy and over twenty years experience working with communities in Africa.

She served as Executive Director of the Firelight Foundation, Program Officer for Africa at the Global Fund for Women, and Grants Analyst at the African Development Foundation.

A graduate of Barnard College, Jennifer received her M.A. and Ph.D. in anthropology from Binghamton University in New York.

Jennifer has spoken widely and served on numerous international committees including: the Council on Foundations and European Foundation Centre Joint Working Group on Accountability in International Grantmaking and the Coalition on Children Affected by AIDS.

Her work has focused on promoting participatory approaches to community-led development and on reaching the disenfranchised – women, youth, children, PLWAs and the disabled ­– with access to basic services and human rights.
